THE BOROUGH OF KIRKLEES SC

The Borough of Kirklees Swimming Club, which until 1989 was known as the Borough of Kirklees Amateur Swimming Club, was formed in 1982 to coincide with the start of Kirklees Metropolitan Council's Swimming Training Scheme and to act as the competitive outlet for swimmers involved in the scheme.

It has, presently, in excess of 250 members, many of whom regularly participate in events throughout the country. The Club organises meets in Kirklees which in turn are attended by swimmers from many other clubs. In order to support the competitors and organise events a tremendous amount of support is required from within the Club from many unnamed officials, parents and friends.

In its short life the Club has made a strong start and with the enthusiasm and commitment presently exhibited by members, parents and the coaching team of the KMC Swimming Training Scheme, should go from strength to strength.

For swimmers to be able to take part in competitive swimming, they must be members of a Swimming Club affiliated to the Amateur Swimming Association. The Borough of Kirklees Swimming Club offers this facility for swimmers in the training scheme who must become members of the Club and agree to the club having first claim, i.e. uninterrupted membership of the Borough of Kirklees Swimming Club must be longer than that of any other club to which the swimmer may belong.

The Borough of Kirklees Swimming Club has several sections covering different areas of aquatics. They are as follows:-

  • Age Group and Senior Competitive Swimmers
  • Masters Swimmers
  • Synchronised Swim Squad
  • Diving Squad

The management of the Club is carried out by the Executive Committee which normally meets once a month and the AGM of the Club is held during December. It is affiliated to the Yorkshire Amateur Swimming Association and to the Kirklees and District Amateur Swimming Association.

The Club colours are green, white and black and members are expected to wear Club colours when representing the Club at all competitions.
